IT'S COMING HOME ...IT'S COMING HOME!! |
| Dougie "Shuggie" Smith Triumphs in Canasta Tour Trophy Shock Win!! writes Angus McOatup |
By his own admission "Shuggie" Smith played mediocre golf but was scabby at all the right times. "I couldn't believe some of the luck I was getting...chipping in off the green for a two, and four points, hitting walls and bouncing onto the green and even sinking the odd 20 foot putt, Lady Luck was certainly on my side!" In a lacklustre career spanning 10 years the Thailand Tour Trophy and The Ashes were his only previous victories and at the start of the week the bookies had him as 14/1 outsider. He certainly did have some luck though and with the occasional enormous drive that went sailing down the middle he did enough to secure a victory holding off Trevor "Tommy Cockles" Ayliff by two points. "I didn't get as pissed as usual and the lack of a hangover every day certainly helped!" It certainly was a quieter nighlife this year with everybody returning by midnight and none of the usual high spirited antics to report on. | |
